What is a Proxy?
Technically, a proxy is a server that acts as a middle man between the client (that's you) and the Internet. Instead of directly getting information, files, and other resources from the web, you are asking a proxy server to get it for you, thus masking yourself behind a different IP address. Thus, if an outsider is trying to access your Internet data, the outsider will extract data from the proxy server instead of the actual client (you).
How Do I Use Proxies?
There are many different software that could be used to set up a proxy for your system. Personally, I created the text proxy lists to be compatible with the free SwitchProxy Extension for Mozilla Firefox. Luckily, proxy lists in the text format are very flexible and can be used with most proxy software for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and other web browsers.
Anonymous Proxy
This is the most popular type of proxy provided here on this website. Anonymous proxies will generally hide your IP address in a fairly secure fashion. However, experienced Internet users and servers can sometimes pinpoint the fact that you are using a proxy server. The speed of an anonymous proxy is typically slower than a transparent proxy, but faster than a high anonymity proxy.
High Anonymity Proxy
Generally this is the highest level of privacy you can receive from the proxies found on this website. When behind a high anonymity proxy (sometimes known as an elite proxy), other users or servers would most likely not even know you are behind a proxy server. However, high anonymity proxies tend to run really slow on the client-side due to the extra security.
CoDeeN Network Proxy
The CoDeeN Network is a proxy server set up at Princeton for general use. These proxies are similiar to anonymous and high anonymity proxies, HOWEVER everything you do online is tracked by Princeton. If you just want to hide yourself from a certain site, the CoDeeN Network proxies work fine. Just remember that Princeton will be keeping tabs on your activity.
Transparent Proxy
This is definitely the fastest type of proxy available on this website. However, in order to make up for the speed increase, the transparent proxy tends to be less secure. More likely than not, your IP address may be leaked, thus providing a very loose protection. If you feel a need for more security, use the anonymous or high anonymity proxy instead.
NonTransparent Proxy
This website provides a list called NonTransparent which is just as the title states: any proxy that is NOT transparent or CodeeN Network. Typically, the proxies in this list (anonymous and high anonymity) will provide enough protection to securely surf the Internet without fear of being tracked. However, these proxies are a few notches slower and less reliable than those in the transparent and CoDeeN Network proxy list.
How Can I Support TextProxyLists.com?
We pride ourselves for providing all our services for free. However, it would be unwise to say that TextProxyLists.com can be managed without spending a penny. If you want to support TextProxyLists.com, feel free to donate money via Paypal or Credit Card to us. This is completely optional, though highly appreciated.
